Senior Home Safety Assessment in Indianapolis
A senior home safety assessment in Indianapolis gives Marion County families an expert look at the home before, or after, a fall changes everything. As an OT with CAPS certification, I help older adults across the city come home safely from hospital and rehab stays and keep living independently in neighborhoods they’ve called home for decades.

Indianapolis Homes Built in Another Era
Indianapolis offers an incredible variety of housing: Craftsman bungalows with steep porch steps, Cape Cods with narrow upstairs bedrooms, mid-century ranches with tight hall baths, and older homes where the only full bathroom is on the second floor. Each era brings its own fall risks.
Narrow doorways may not fit a walker. A tub-shower combination with a high wall can become impossible to step over. Basement laundry means trips up and down steep stairs with an armful of clothes. I identify the barriers in your parent’s specific home and recommend practical solutions, including a walk-in shower for elderly residents when it truly fits the space and the person.
Home Safety After Hospital Discharge
With many of Indiana’s largest hospitals and rehab programs here, including IU Health Methodist Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, discharge is often where my Indianapolis work begins. Your parent may come home with a walker, new precautions after surgery, or less stamina than before. I assess fall risk in the rooms they’ll use most and help you decide what to change first.
Serving Neighborhoods Across Marion County
I visit homes throughout Indianapolis and am especially close to the north side, from Broad Ripple and Meridian-Kessler to Nora and Castleton. Wherever your parent lives in Marion County, call and I’ll share my soonest opening.
Indianapolis Senior Home Safety FAQs
Can you assess the home before my parent is discharged from the hospital?
Call as soon as you know a discharge date. Seeing your parent move through the home gives me the most accurate picture, so we’ll talk about whether a visit just before or just after their return makes the most sense.
My parent’s older home has a tiny bathroom. Can it be made safe?
Usually, yes. Small bathrooms often benefit from carefully placed grab bars, a comfort-height toilet or raised seat, a handheld shower, and smarter storage. If a larger change like a curbless shower makes sense, I’ll explain why and what it involves.
Do you serve all of Indianapolis?
I serve Indianapolis and Marion County and am most convenient to the north side. Call (317) 548-6500 with your parent’s address and I’ll confirm availability.
