Aging in Place Assessment in Carmel, IN

Carmel is my home community, and an aging in place assessment here often feels like helping a neighbor. I’m Tina Galle, and I’ve worked in this community for decades, including more than two decades in its schools, before turning my full attention to home safety. I help Hamilton County seniors, and the adult children who look out for them, find the hazards in the house and fix them before a fall.

Why Many Carmel Homes Need a Second Look

Many of Carmel’s established neighborhoods were built for growing families, with primary bedrooms upstairs, sunken family rooms, and two or three steps from the garage into the house. Those features feel charming at 45 and treacherous at 85. Newer homes and villas solve some problems but create others, like slick tile showers with curbs or decorative rugs on hard floors.

During a Carmel visit, I look at whether your parent can realistically live on the main floor, how stairs and step-downs can be made safer, and which bathroom changes deliver the most protection.

Keeping Mom or Dad at Home in Carmel

Many families who call me live a few miles from their parents and stop by several times a week. They notice the bruises, the furniture-walking, the stack of mail left on the stairs because carrying it up has become too hard. An assessment turns those worries into a written plan you can carry out with the contractor of your choice.

Close to Home Means Prompt Visits

Because I’m based in Carmel, scheduling here is usually the simplest of all. Families often see me soon after the first call.

Support After a Hospital Stay on the North Side

Carmel families often reach out after a parent’s stay at IU Health North Hospital or Ascension St. Vincent Carmel, or after a rehab stay nearby. An assessment soon after discharge helps your parent return to a home that’s ready for their new needs.

Carmel Aging-in-Place FAQs

My parent’s Carmel home has the primary bedroom upstairs. Can they still age in place?

Often, yes. I’ll assess whether the stairs can be made safer with railings on both sides and better lighting, or whether a main-floor bedroom and bathroom setup makes more sense. The answer depends on your parent’s abilities and how their condition is likely to change.

Do you assess condos, villas, and 55-plus communities in Carmel?

Yes. Even single-level homes designed for older adults can have hazards like curbed showers, dim lighting, or low toilets. I assess any residence where your loved one lives.

How far in advance should I schedule in Carmel?

Call as soon as you have a concern. Carmel is my home base, so I can usually schedule visits here quickly.
